Cowdray Estate

THE ESTATE

The Cowdray Estate in West Sussex is a historic and picturesque area nestled beneath the South Downs in the heart of the National Park. The estate has been owned by the same family for generations and is currently owned by Michael Pearson, the fourth Viscount Cowdray. The estate features the ruins of Cowdray House, a magnificent Tudor manor destroyed by fire in 1793, which now provides a stunning backdrop to the polo fields. The third Viscount Cowdray, Weetman Pearson, played a significant role in making the estate the home of British polo. Today, the estate covers 16,000 acres, with over 36% dedicated to woodland, offering diverse sporting and leisure opportunities, a wellbeing centre, and a Farm Shop and Café showcasing local produce.

FOOD, DRINK AND LIFESTYLE

The Cowdray Farm Shop and Café is conveniently located less than a 15-minute walk from the treehouses. Guests can look forward to enjoying a delightful dining experience at the café, which offers freshly made, wholesome dishes for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea. The café's ethos reflects the seasons and uses estate produce and local suppliers for ingredients, ensuring a connection to the beautiful landscape. All food served is freshly prepared, and local suppliers are used for items such as jams, chutneys, and seasonal produce.

At Cowdray Farm Shop, you'll find a wide selection of delicious cheeses, freshly baked breads, cakes, pastries made by in-house chefs, and pantry staples chosen by their knowledgeable team.

SPORT AND WELLBEING

At Cowdray, guests can immerse themselves in a wide range of sporting activities. The estate offers not only the thrill of professional polo but also the opportunity to partake in or spectate various other sports. In addition to the internationally famous polo events, guests can enjoy golf on the beautiful century-old course, which provides a true test of the game with its 18 holes on a par 70 course. Furthermore, the estate provides opportunities for visitors to engage in activities such as tennis and croquet. Whether you're a participant or a spectator, Cowdray offers a diverse array of sporting experiences for all to enjoy.

Griffin: with a slightly bigger kitchen and a central island, ideal for hosting visitors or preparing a delicious feast for two during your stay.
