Vineyard : Upperton
Want to relax by sipping English sparkling wine in the South Downs and sampling some of the fine whites of the south coast? Upperton is set within panoramic views of the rolling English countryside, just down the road from us at Tree House Retreats. The Sussex climate gives the grapes time to ripen slowly, increasing their ripeness, complexity and acidity which showcases in prestigious bottles of distinctive sparkling wine using the finest Chardonnay grapes creating light gold and brioche notes. Arrange a private tour to explore the family-run vineyards as an indulgent afternoon.
Pub : The Duke of Cumberland Arms
Our local - a 16th century hillside pub with brick floors, wooden scrubbed tables and a garden with ponds. Located in a small hamlet called Henley, the award-winning restaurant serves a range of the abundant produce available from the local area – cooking with meat from nearby organic farms and fresh fish from the south coast, as well as the pub’s own vegetable patch.
Top tip : You can meander through the footpaths from the tree houses or enjoy a glass of wine beside the fire and book a taxi home to the tree tops.
Give your tastebuds a treat with the eclectic mix of pubs, cafés and bars spotted throughout The South Downs. Sussex is truly the home of quintessential British food, with coastal, culinary traditions and home cooked recipes which form menus smattered with meaty puddings, a whole heap of suet and local farm produce.
